Hehe, well I think you are definately on to something! You should get a darker rock with dead flowers all over it and the roots intertwining around the rock. And the petals on the flowers could be all droopy and sad.
I used E-6000, mainly at the end of the trunk, with a little bit along the roots. I used to use hot glue, but that doesn't last very well. With E-6000, you get a really good bond. The only downside to it is that it has to set over night, so when I did this one, I used a hammer and pliers in strategic spots to hold the tree in place overnight while the glue settled. I wish I could find a way to mount them onto rocks more invisibly, but with the same bond strength. Perhaps one day I will.
My sister used to do wire sculptures. She had a really cool lizard she made. I can ask her if she knows any other technique for bonding it onto rocks. This tree looks great though, I'm sure the glue isn't noticeable.
