Bubbles and Butterflies Bonsai

Description

Here's my most recent wire bonsai sculpture.

This tree is made from 30 gauge silver floral wire, 11/0 green seed beads, and these little clear coin-shaped glass beads that have swirls and stripes of green in them. It's mounted on a lovely piece of slate.

This is my first time trying to create a different shaped bonsai, and also my first experiment with trying to create a thicker trunk without adding more wire. It's not perfect, but I think it's a step in the right direction. While I was doing so many firsts, I thought I'd try a more creative title for once. :P

WOW.
That was my first opinion. The first thought that went through my head. This is so beautiful!
The way that the main trunk is so slender is nice, but it does take away from an impression that the bonsai is of any great age.

For me, at least, bonsais are always quite old and tend to bend to the side. They have thick base trunks and thick branches that spread into a canopy that doesn't tend to be see through.
This is wonderful and lovely and gorgeous, but it doesn't look as much like my definition of a "bonsai" as it could. For starters, the trunk and thicker branches are too slender for the size of the piece. If it was smaller, that wouldn't be a problem. However, if it was smaller, then the slate would be too big for it. As it is, the slate is just the right size.
To me, this looks more like a sapling that has been shaped to appear bonsai-like. Now, that doesn't mean I don't like it. I do. Very much. I just believe that "bonsai" could be mislabeling it. However, it is still a WONDERFUL piece.

I apologize if I come across as rude to you. I don't have much experience writing critiques, and softening my words has never been my strong suit.
