French Beaded Sunflower

Description

This is the french beaded sunflower I've made. I used 28 gauge wire and 11/0 glass seed beads. The flower is 4 inches across, and it quite heavy! I had to use 5 pieces of stem wire to get it to stand up straight. This is the first time I tried beading a stem, and I will say that it was very difficult and I need some more practice! Still, I'm happy with how this turned out. I think it's really cheerful. :)

This is beautiful! I have not yet attempted a sunflower myself but look forward to doing one sometime. The back side is especially well done and the petals are flawless both in technique and assembly. The flower is very natural looking. :) The two leaves on the stem however are smaller than would be found on a living sunflower.
I know it can be hard to get the stem wires to hold up a heavy piece. Have you considered cutting up a wire clothes hanger or using a small wooden dowel?
